The parenting tip I hear the most often is that I should write down all the funny things Teagan says before I forget them. At the time I think I won't forget them and I do. So before I forget these, here are some things that my child said recently that amused me.
My visiting teachers came over and Teagan was ready for them to leave. He stood up on a chair and announced: "Ladies and Gentlemen: This show is OVER!" Thankfully, my visiting teachers thought that was pretty funny.
Teagan was shopping with my mom and he asked if he could pick out a doughnut for Buzz. (My dad.) She told him he could and he chose a doughnut for his Grandpa. Then once it was in the paper sack, he asked if he could pick out a doughnut for himself. She agreed and he said, "OK. But I don't want a damaged one."
He got something in his eye once and it really bothered him. I am sure it was just a piece of lint or something. He starts screaming "There's a bug in my eye!" I looked in his eye, and didn't see anything, but I did seem rather concerned as anyone would at the thought of a bug being in your child's eye. Apparently I gave him too much attention over the matter. He now tells me there is a bug in his eye anytime I tell him to do something he doesn't want to do. (Like bedtime, potty time, clean-up time, etc.)
He has been on such a pirate kick lately. He is a bad pirate almost everyday. He calls me captain (so fitting) and sings pirate songs. His favorite is a really annoying song he learned from Backyardagains. It's to the tune of "What do you do with a drunken sailor" only they sing, "What do you do with a scurvy pirate?" Well, I heard him mumbling words together to the tune of the drunken sailor song so i figured he must know the song and I started singing it with him. Little did I know, I just taught my son the song "What do you do with a drunken sailor." He instantly caught on and sings it almost every day. The best part is, Darryl had to sing that song in choir in 7th grade and he knows the second verse and sang it to Teagan. Now my precious little toddler goes around singing: (I'm going to Teaganize it for you so you get the idea of how he pronounces the words)
What do ya do with a runtin sailor?
What do ya do with a runtin sailor?
What do ya do with a runtin sailor early-lie in the morning?
Put 'em in the longboat til he's sober
Put 'em in the longboat til he's sober
Put 'em in the longboat til he's sober early-lie in the morning.
(He pronounces early then lie. It's pretty funny.)
Today he was singing "Twinkle twinkle little star. How I wonder what you are. Up above the world so high, like a spider in his hat and called it macaroni."
Teagan looked at our wedding album and said, "Mama, are you a princess?" I told him yes and not to forget it.
Teagan asked to go to tranyafornia. When I asked him what was in tranyafornia, he said "My Reita." Darryl's parents (Curt and Reita) live in California. Despite us encouraging him to call her Grandma, he mostly calls her "my Reita." And Lance can attest to the fact that he is not too keen on sharing "his" Reita.
While riding in the car with my parents and Darryl and me, Teagan said, "If you want to come to my pirate party say ARGH!"
We put up our Christmas tree and Teagan was so thrilled. He was jumping up and down saying, "It's my Merry Christmas Tree! I'm so happy! I love you so much!" Then he would hug Darryl and me. It was adorable seeing him act so grateful to us for putting up the tree. It was also fun to see his enthusiasm for Christmas.
He asked a surprisingly intelligent question about a bodily function (really no point in grossing anyone out here) and after answering the question I commented to Darryl "He's quite a thinker." And Teagan said, "Hey, I'm not a stinker. Only my poop is stinky."
I will be adding to this post periodically so if you are interested in what he's saying, check back.

Halloween
We had unusually warm weather this fall and even in late October the weather was warm and wonderful. We went to Wheeler Farm to pick pumkins with our neighbors and had a great time.

Brain Jello

My favorite Teagan quote was when he was upset with my on Halloween (naptime) and said "Stop being a witch Mama!" I laughed pretty hard.
This year for Halloween we threw a kid's party with our neighbors. It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun. We had our usual mummy hotdogs and withches brew (homemade rootbeer) and this time we made some really cute owl cookies and a jello brain.
We played some games and had some food and then for the best part. We had a pinata. As if the kids weren't going to get enough candy trick-or-treating we filled an entire pinata with it and let them have at it.
The party was a huge success and later that evening we took Teagan to the trunk or treat that my parent's ward put on. It ended up being horrible weather on Halloween so the trunk or treat was nice. He got TONS of candy and had a great time. Here are the hightlights in photos:

At the Zoo
Marissa and I decided to take Peach (Cameron) and Teagan to Hogle Zoo. We had a great time. The kids loved seeing the animals and Teagan especially loved the train and carousel. It was so fun watching Cameron's excitement over the animals. We had a great time and made it home by nap time. Even better. Didn't get any animal pictures oddly enough, but here's what I managed to photograph:

Disneyland Cont.
We went over to Fantasy Land and got in line for Peter Pan. We waited for several minutes. I was pretty excited to take him on his first ride at Disneyland. We got up to the front of the line and only 4 people were ahead of us when they announced that the ride was being shut down for repairs and they didn't know when it would re-open. We were a little disappointed, but went on to a different ride. Teagan ended up loving the carousel of all rides. He loved the horses. That got him started and he realized rides were actually fun. He loved Dumbo, Pirates, the Teacups and eventually when it was running again, Peter Pan. He also wanted to go on Winnie the Pooh over and over. He had a great time. He was able to see several characters and he enjoyed that for the most part. He got a little nervous around Woody, but LOVED Mickey and all the Winnie the Pooh characters.
Over the coarse of our trip, ride after ride would close down right as we got toward the front of the line. It was pretty irritating. The general response from Disney's "Cast Members" was "Well, it's our off season." I kept thinking, ok so that means I pay the same and get screwed?! It happened a few times while were on the ride too. It made me feel pretty disenchanted with Disney. It certainly didn't make it seem anywhere close to the happiest place on earth. One ride operator was actually quite rude to me and that was the last straw. We were on the matterhorn and just barely buckled in when they came around to check our seatbelts. Then someone else came to check our seatbelts, then a guy yelled for us all to get out. He didn't say what was going on or anything he just said "You need to get off this ride." So I start unbuckling Teagan and apparently I wasn't fast enough. He came over and started yelling at me personally. I was doing the best I could to get a 2 year old up and off the ride. It was pretty irritating.
That was the last straw. So I marched right down to guest services and told them I was displeased with my visit. I work in customer service and I know how it feels to be yelled at over something that you didn't cause, so I remainded calm and politely explained the situation. I told her that it was really disheartening to take my son on his first Disney trip and have all the rides shut down after you wait in line. The lady at guest services was civil (wasn't rude, but didn't apologize and never smiled) and gave us a few passes to get to the front of the line on a few rides. She mentioned that it had been happening to several of the rides. She mentioned more rides than even the 8 we had problems with. It sounded like she had given out several front of the line passes. No wonder the lines felt longer than the expected wait time listed. Everyone else complained earlier and got passes long before I did. I felt like that helped a little to make the day better, but I didn't get the passes until the evening of our last day there so we didn't even get the chance to use them all. We did use them for the submarine nemo ride. That line was incredibly long the whole time we were there and I heard from several people that it wasn't worth waiting for. We went to the front of the line for that ride and it certainly wouldn't have been worth waiting in a long line for. Teagan did love it though, so I am glad we got to go on it once. We would have skipped it entirely if it weren't for the pass.
Despite the rides being shut down several times, we had a great trip. It was a lot of tun to have my parents and Lynn there as well as getting to spend time in Disneyland with Darryl's family. Teagan got spoiled by 2 sets of grandparents and came home with loads of Disney weaponry. (My parents bought him a bubble gun and Darryl's parents bought him a cool light-up sword.) Teagan couldn't have been better. He was an angel the whole trip. He really did so much better than I had expected. I was prepared for major toddler melt-downs and he was pleasant and happy the whole time. He didn't cry. He occasionally bumped into people waiting in line and was fascinated with some lady's fanny pack, but other than that, he was great.
Disneyland!

We took Teagan on his very first trip to Disneyland. Darryl and I love Disneyland so we were especially excited to share it with Teag. Lynn was also really wanting to go for his birthday, so luckily my parents decided to take Lynn to Disneyland and we were able to plan it so we could all go together.
My dad drove in the truck with us and we left early in the morning so we ended up getting to our hotel at about 3:30 pm. Teagan was an angel in the car. He was pleasant and just wonderful the whole trip, but I was especially surprised how good he was in the car. Once we got to the hotel, however, he was wound up. My dad decided to play a game with him to keep him occupied. He told Teagan they were going to play Toy Story and Grandpa would be Woody and Teagan would be Buzz (Buzz is Teagan's favorite by a LONG shot). Well, given the nature of kids, Teagan wanted to be Woody instead. So for the rest of the trip he called my Dad Buzz and referred to himself as Woody. My Dad decided that Lynn was Rex (so fitting. The gentle giant.) and my mom was . . . Mrs. Potato Head! She said, "Of all the characters in the show I am Mrs Potato Head?! I couldn't have been Jessie, or Bo Peep, or even Barbie?" My Dad just said, "Well, I can see you've packed your angry eyes." It was pretty funny. (Those of you who don't know my parents well enough, they both have a great sense of humor.) Luckily, I got to be Jessie (we have been back for a few weeks now and he still calls me Jessie) and he decided Darryl was Goofy. (Not in Toy Story, but still very fitting.)
Teagan had no idea what Disneyland was, so I pulled up a picture online and printed it out (same pic I posted above). He knew that Mickey lived there and that there were rides. His previous experience with rides scared him a bit, so when we first entered the park we are walking down mainstreet and he has this nervous look of dread. It was hysterical. I wish I had been able to get a picture of it. What kid is scared of DISNEYLAND?! He ended up loving it, of coarse, but not til after he realized exactly what kind of rides they were and what to expect.
